In this first of a two part interview on the podcast where talk with Joan Eisenstodt, a 2004 inductee to the Convention Industry Council Hall of Leaders.  

We talk at length about the industry, the history oforganizations like the CIC, mentorship, education and ways that past honoreescan maybe be better involved in helping the next generation of people in ourindustry.

Joan Eisenstodt is one of the most prominent voices in themeetings industry for education, life long learning and innovation. In additionto her consulting she teaches classes on ethics, risk management, contracts, negotiationsand overall meeting management.  She alsopersonally has mentored numerous younger professionals as they entered themeeting and events industry.

Show #3 - Interview with Carol Krugman

In October the Convention Industry Council will hold it's Hall of Leaders Celebration in Las Vegas.  On our third podcast we sit down with Carol Krugman, CMP, CMM, M.Ed. of Metropolitan State University of Denver to discuss her being recognized this year by being inducted into the Hall of Leaders.  

In her current role as the Chair of the Department of Hospitality, Tourism & Events at Metropolitan State University she lead the development of a Bachelor of Science program in Event and Meeting Management.  It's currently the only baccalaureate program based on the international standards set by MBECS (Meeting and Business Event Competency Standards) and the CMP International Standards.  Prior to her work work at the university, she was a senior manager for two global communications agencies as well as president of her own international meeting management company. 

We talk about the development and the evolution of formal educational standards like MBECS for the meetings industry over the past thirty years.  The significance of a stand alone degree program in event management and the next steps and future of education in the industry.

Show #5 Interview with Paul Van Deventer Part 2

Meeting Professionals International held their annual World Education Conference in Atlantic City last month.  During the event over two thousand attendees came for education, networking and a bit of relaxation after the days events ended.  We attended, and we saw first hand the quality of offerings and the terrific job done by the hosts to show off their destination.

Post event we had some time to sit down with Paul Van Deventer, the President and CEO of MPI to discuss how the organization went about reinventing it's signature event this year, as well as the changes to the organization itself over the past few years.  Among the more prominent changes; the membership model has been revised, there are multiple new educational offerings and an ongoing discussion of how MPI can continue to be an effective association for its members in both the near and the distant future.  

In fact, there was so much discussed that we decided to split the talk into two segments.  This is part two.  Please note once again that we're posting these two segments slightly out of order to bring it to you in a more timely manner, rather than waiting for the next slot in out regular posting schedule.  We hope you enjoy part two!

Show #2 - Interview with Mariela Mcilwraith

In October the Convention Industry Council will hold it's Hall of Leaders Celebration in Las Vegas.  On our second podcast we were able to sit down and talk with Mariela Mcilwraith, CMP, CMM, MBA of GMIC and Meeting Change to talk about her being honored this year with the Pacesetter Award from the CIC.  

As President of Meeting Change and Director, Sustainability for GMIC she's taken an industry leadership role in CSR, sustainability, ethics and other emerging issues in the meetings industry.  She's the editor of the recently published 9th edition of the Convention Industry Council Manual as well as being co-author of Meet Better: 167 Easy Ways to Make Your Events More Environmentally and Socially Responsible.

We discuss the upcoming CMP Conclave and GMIC event in Baltimore and some of the ways that will be used to assure those who come will be participants and not just attendees.
